The 991 is the first 911 to use predominantly aluminum construction. This means that even though the car is larger than the outgoing model, it is still up to 50 kilograms (110 lb) lighter. The reduced weight and increased power means that both the Carrera and Carrera S are appreciably faster than the outgoing models. This "Making of" video takes viewers behind the scenes of a recent Porsche Panamera commercial shoot.

The "Family Tree" ad used 50 different Porsche models, with 22 professional drivers on hand to make it happen. In the final version, the cars race around miles of tarmac, all centered around the new Porsche Panamera. By the end of the video, the cars have splintered off to form the shape of a tree, with the Panamera creating "another bold line on the family tree," states the narrator.

The shoot for the television ad took three days to complete, with over 160 crew members involved. "Family Tree" was directed by @Radical Media's Jeff Zwart, who specializes in automotive ads. Amongst many other spots, Zwart directed the Hyundai Genesis Coupe commercial featuring Yo-Yo Ma.

The flagship spot of the "Engineered for Magic. Everyday" campaign is Versatile, a :30 journey across varied landscapes showing how Porsche fits into everyday life. A mother clears snow from the windows before driving off with her infant down a snowy neighborhood street as the word "snowmobile" flashes across the screen. "Pickup truck" appears as a man tosses several large bags from a big-box store into the front cargo area of his Cayman. A businessman ends an exasperating day at the office by revving the tachometer in his Carrera GTS, or, as the spot re-labels it, his "getaway car." Finally, a mother picks two young children up in a yellow Porsche, or "school bus." The remaining spots, all :15s, focus on and expand upon these individual vignettes.
